Traveling Together
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” — African proverb

In mid-September, I had the opportunity to travel across Elliot Bay on a Washington State Ferry to visit one of our donors on Bainbridge Island. The trip from Seattle took about 45 minutes and I noticed several tables on the main deck with partially completed jigsaw puzzles on them. Passengers sit down and add a piece or two during their voyage until, eventually, the whole puzzle is completed.

I love that!

Even though most people do not get to see the end result, they are still part of bringing the big picture to life.

It hit me that New Horizons works the same way. We have a network of donors who partner with us to provide medical care, trauma counseling, educational opportunities and vocational training to survivors of human trafficking and sexual abuse. (If you’re reading this, chances are that you are one of them.) Each of you is filling in a piece of the puzzle. By doing what you can, our house mothers, nurses, teachers, counselors and support staff are able to bring hope, dignity and restoration to 75 girls who call New Horizons home.

Even though you may never get a chance to see the completed picture, your impact will be felt for generations to come: our graduates are starting families, attending university and successfully launching their own small businesses. Thank you for being part of the big picture.

On behalf of the girls,

Jonathan Spencer
President and Founder

P.S. We are growing! In coming months, we will be providing additional details about our new Transition House. You can follow our progress and partner with us at www.newhorizonshouse.org.
