Saira's Story

The beginning of Saira’s story was difficult, as with most of the girls who enter New Horizons House. Sexually abused by a boy who promised her marriage, and then by her father when she returned home from school for the holidays, she finally arrived at NHH in March 2019.

Initially, she wanted to run away, she felt lonely and expressed this through anger by taking it out on other girls. However as she began working with our counsellors, and accepting the love and care of our house mothers, she gradually overcame her loneliness.

A year later, she received the sad news that her mother who had been very ill had passed away in the hospital. This was a very challenging time for Saira who leant on the other girls and staff for support as she grieved and recovered from this sad loss.

She through herself into her studies, enrolling in 1oth grade. She studied English, computer skills and an MPHW vocational training course doing well in her exams. Saira also loves to dance and actively participates in all cultural programs.

Her aim to get an undergraduate degree in nursing to fulfil her dream of becoming a nurse. We are so proud of Saira, and look forward to seeing her become a nurse someday!
