In 10th grade, Maha fell victim to the emotional manipulation of an older man who lured her into a false sense of love and security with kind words and gifts before taking advantage of her and sexually abusing her. Her mother’s response to this was to physically abuse her and attempt to marry her off.
Maha managed to contact the police who in order to prevent this forced child marriage sent her to us here at New Horizons House. At first, as with many of the girls who arrive, she was shy and reserved, not wanting to talk about her experiences, instead dwelling on her painful thoughts alone.
However, as time passed, she engaged in our rehabilitation program, with staff and the other girls. She began learning sewing and craft works for few months before finding her passion to progress to higher education. She is currently attending Junior college and aims to pursue teacher training so that she can have a secure job whilst doing something that she loves.
We are so proud of Maha and can’t wait to see where her journey of restoration takes her next!
