Dear NHH Friends & Supporters,
May was filled with fun and exciting events to celebrate! We continue to be grateful for the amazing hard work and dedication from the NHH staff and Johnson & Esther. This last month, many of the board members in Colorado enjoyed a visit from Esther and her son, Johryn, as they were visiting Colorado. Esther and Johryn had the wonderful opportunity to first travel to Purdue University as Esther’s eldest son, Mervyn, graduated with his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. We are so proud of him and excited for what this next chapter may hold! Esther and Jorhyn were able to do a lot of sightseeing while in Colorado and even had the opportunity to experience a May snow! For Jorhyn, this was the first time he experienced snow! Esther also was able to visit friends in Arizona, Texas, and Florida while in the states. All while the girls at New Horizons House remained in good hands- as the staff took wonderful care of them in Esther’s absence!
During the month of May, New Horizons House also participated in the Women Empowering Change event at the McNicholas Civic Center Building in Denver, CO. This inspiring event had leaders from 100 organizations that were either led or about women, all coming together to create a better world. Board members had the wonderful opportunity to meet people and to spread awareness about the mission and work being done at New Horizons House, while also learning about other organizations doing similar work in Denver and around the globe. New Horizons House also had an advocate, who was able to visit the home last fall, stop by to help spread awareness and join in on the fun! Many people stopped by the New Horizons House table to learn more about the organization and to collect resources for additional information. It was a fun afternoon designed to share ideas, glean inspiration, and connect resources. It was beautiful to witness so many organizations coming together to make a difference in the world.
Lastly, we are celebrating New Horizons House being awarded a $10,000 grant from the Circle of Sisterhood! We are so honored and grateful to receive this award! The award will help New Horizon House to provide tuition, textbooks and all vocational training materials for the women in the safe house and transitional house and continue to empower them to re-enter mainstream society with dignity and hope. We are always so thankful for our amazing supporters and donors! We couldn’t do it without you and want you to know that each one of you is leaving a legacy by supporting the women of New Horizons House.
Blessings,
Shanna Scott
